True art is artless, so do you believe in colors?
You have to believe in art, you have to believe in colors.
China has always fascinated me, I would like to go there, sometimes. I also like Chinese food.
I also like the patterns of African fabrics.
I also like a lot Russian visual artists what there were earlier like Wassily Kadinsky. By the way I really like the Russian food too. Georgian food is exceptionally good, too. So I tend to combine art and food in my thoughts.
By the way I like blues music a lot, so I do like the Cajun food, too. And even though, I do like to preserve nature also generations to come, I like to eat game food.
I do not do available for order paintings, what is an exception in Finland and hopefully there will be more exceptions like that in Finnish art world. I am only interested those visual artist, which do not do the available for order art, but unfortunately they are a minority here in Finland and reason for that is the selected Finnish Art Scholarship practice, where art scholarship is granted only if the visual artist makes available for ordering paintings or other available for order art and result of that is, the number of these normal visual artists will continue to decrease, and usually if you are born before year 83 or if you want to take part to art exhibition to abroad, you will not get art grant because of your birth year or the physical place where art exhibition is, which is really odd. Those artist what I do admire here in Finland are all art oldies. But apparently, we here in Finland think, that only young people have artistic talent. So, if somebody is getting art grant here, you have to be careful, because it tells nothing how good his or hers art, actually is.
Here in Finland has made a selection of values, in where the visual artist of ordered paintings and others similar order art like art is prioritized. In Finland, the quality of artistic work is not the base for awarding an art grant, first what they think when visual artist makes an art grant application, is that is this visual artist an economically productive visual artist. So we here in Finland have deep Trust in economical values, also in Art.
Usually also those visual artist who makes available for order painting, do also normal paintings, and those paintings you have to find, if you want to do art purchases here in Finland, but usually they are hard to find. Because Finnish art collectors do love available for order paintings, because they can choose the colors what visual artist will use on that painting what they have ordered. And I find that totally silly. Situation is like here, paintings are like adult coloring books, and visual artist will color them behalf of their customer, and we think this is art? Am I really the only one who finds this weird?
There are also visual artists in Finland who try to do art first and sell their own artistic view, but they are not supported. Because, according to the Ministry of Culture's interpretation, this is contrary to the creative economic strategy because they are not ready to sell products, only their own artistic view. Are you staying with me there?
So now we have to think about the difference between the art product and the art concept. But it would be a good idea for an art buyer to think about what an artistic view a visual artist has and has that visual artist found his or hers own style, and whether this visual artists style is suitable for the art buyers own style. Or is it that the art buyer should follow a creative economic strategy also, and focus on buying only artistic products? But what happens to Finnish art then?
That is, in Finland is strong belief to production of good's and visual artists should do the same. Even though today even in Finland people are buying services, and many thinks that, it is more profitable than selling products.
We do not understand in Finland that selling a concept could be more profitable. Whichever sounds better artistic product or art concept?
Well, I just throw the words here in the air, I try to show a slightly different view of art in the field of Finnish art. In Finland, too, we do not understand enough that the visual artist can also use his or hers ability to do something other than just an art or artistic product. Making art is intuitive, it requires thinking, talent, perseverance and also skill. Art is not just about painting, photography, or image editing. Everyone can use image editing software, take photos or paint. But only a few can do art. So what is the concept of art?
I argue that the concept of art is not to make products, or to produce anything at all.
Because how you can make a product- and how you can make art, is totally different thing. And visual artist, can make art or art products or products, or functional services, because usually they are talented people. But artist is not a machine.
The visual artist who is making the available for order paintings has subjugated himself as a machine to secure even some kind of livelihood for perhaps an European art-hateful country, what is Finland, where art taxation is the hardest in Europe, including the countries of the former East Bloc. Finnish cultural minister is talking lot of bull, how art should be one way to get more travelers in Finland, but apparently visual artist should not get paid for doing for that. So their nice words and speeches are just words. Beautiful words without any content what comes to real life where visual artist do live here in Finland.
But it must also be remembered that an art product or product is just a product even if it was designed and made by a visual artist or other artist.
So what is the concept of art, What is art, it's the last question?
Basic thing is, when you have a painting what is simplicity, then you have art. Basic thing is even if the painting or other art is done technically skillfully, but there is no simplicity or concept in there, according to my personal art aspect that is not art. But that is a beautiful thing in art, there is different aspects and others can disagree with me, if they want, but that is also a beautiful thing in art, that I can have my own opinion, too. So, here is no right or wrong answer here. And that is maybe difficult thing to see here in Finland, because Finnish people always want to have clear answers, and Finnish people do see art as a product, even art really is one form of communication.
Even though I am against available for order paintings, I am a actually a commercialization professional, I have worked earlier in food industry as a product development leader. So I know what I am talking about here. So If you want to know how a yoghurt has to done, that it is economically reasonable to do, I can help you on that question, but that system do not fit in art world. I have Master of Social Sciences and I am a chef, too. So I am interested social issues because of my training and that aspect can be seen also some in my art and I am a foodie, too.
I think, this commercial art situation is difficult for many full time visual artist, because when you are doing your job as a production professional, most of the work is normal office work and meetings and phone calls and writing different reports and so on, and in this job you are not using your artistic skills. But if you have to do marketing, packaging design and new recipes, which have to fit into production process line satisfied manner, (what is my special skill) you are using your artistic and visual skill, but work itself is mainly problem solving issues on an everyday level.
So when you are a purely visual artist, that is not a good feature in business world, there you have to tolerate boring and gray everyday and you have to know laws and obey them and in the business world you have to be able to be goal-oriented. And I think, most of the visual artist who has only art training that I have seen, are not like that. Basically they are living in their own world what is fine, they work is to show their imagery world to others through their artwork.
I think in business the best situation is when everybody wins, but who is winning now? Do the art collectors get the art that they deserve? Because art can not be a product, because art is like a literature, and literature can not be a product.
If art becomes a product it looses the essence of being art. Art has to be between the limits here in Finland. Art is Art here, if Art is Art-like selfie art, what is easy to make, then art is between the Limits being a product. And if Art is a product, then it is limited, and creativity is limited. And we have to ask, what happens when creativity is limited...
SO, DO YOU REALLY WANT TO ORDER ART? Available for order painting means here in Finland, that the visual artist designs a template of the painting, and the subscriber of the painting is able to choose the colors they want and the details they want into that painting they have ordered.
Art is in the opinion of Finnish art education and a minister of culture of Finland, a product to be ordered. And I am sorry to say, but available for order paintings are always simplified examples and versions of the paintings that visual artists can and are able to do. Maybe that is a annoying thing to hear, but that is the way cookie crumbles in case of those product like paintings. But If you like to buy product like paintings, that is really good way to "spent" you money. This subscription painting phenomenon, is just and only, a Finnish phenomenon. Elsewhere in Europe, this is not the case. Finnish artists also sell available paintings for order as art, even though it is actually a decor product, and the price of a decorative painting should be lower than the price of art.
Usually, the background of the paintings, for example in auctions are explained, there is no desire to sell copies. It is confusing that in Finnish art education students are taught to replicate their own works and that is a fact, if the artist reproduces their own works, every artist can copy them too. Any technically skilled artist can copy a available for order painting. We have to ask, what happens to art if an artist copies himself and his own paintings?
Lets review the order art phenomenon through the following example.
In the following pictures are made on the basis of Finnish art education nowadays, that is I did design 6 of my own painting templates, that would be easy for me to paint, if I would want to paint so-called available for order paintings. It would be easier to me paint all of those painting template's below than they were design. All of those six "available for order" designs have taken me more time to do, than they would have taken, if I would have wanted to paint them. So, let's think if these paintings are painted according to these patterns below, are those paintings a. Art or b. Decorating paintings
Right answer would be.....b., they would be decorative paintings.
And now we can ask why they would be a decorating paintings, not art, although I was designing them as a visual artist. They would be decorative paintings because I was designing them as a "product"-
That means, I was designing those painting template's on the basis that it would be for me easy and quick to paint them, and I could also in advance calculate what materials costs would be and in how many hours I paint them. So in this way, I could be able to schedule mine time and mine calendar, when I paint them.
It took me 48 hours to design those patterns, It would have taken me 30 hours to paint them. It was surprisingly difficult to design them, my goal was that it would be easy for my customize different color's in the painting as easily as possible and with minimal effort.
That is the principle what available for order painters do follow.
My favorite favorites, from Finnish visual artists are ❤❤Hannu Hautala's nature photos, ❤❤Inari Krohn's Graphics (her full name is Silja Inari Krohn) and ❤❤❤Reidar Särestöniemi's paintings. The statues of ❤Kerttu Horila are also interesting and funny, and I like them a lot. ❤Juho Karjalainen's painting like graphics are, in their simplicity, beauty of simplicity, and I really like Juuso bear art too, and he is getting 💕.
When you evaluate, the quality of the art, evaluate the picture or painting as you look at it, whether it would be easier to market by saying, buy this painting, this painting tells us how reality is or buy this painting, this painting tells us how reality could be. The above mentioned five artists could be marketed with both slogans.
Next, a few photos taken by me along the way, in the photos I am fascinated with a certain stagnation, how to capture a feel of the movement even there is no motion in the picture. These photos have not been edited anyway, black and white photos are taken directly from the camera setting.
The following pictures are photos that I have edited, none of these photo print below have seen paint and all the images below have been made by computer.
When you look at the pictures, you should think is picture taking you somewhere you do not want to go or are you skeptical about that picture, or should you be skeptical about it. It's the same thing when you look at art, with a message or a joke hidden, or you are looking at the picture of the news event or marketing picture, you have to think what you see. If you see a news picture, so do you know what the news was just looking that picture. Pictures are stories, written news tells us the story of that picture.
So, what the news says? Or what do the scam pictures say?
If you look at the picture of the news, will you get the same information as you would it, if you did read the news. Images are clips, moments of life. In art, moment or thought can be captured in an image and that image will follow the viewer.
And that's a talent, how it's done, how to capture for a moment into a picture, and that is visual artist purpose of life and work, catch a moment or a feeling in the picture.
What was the moment here, what I did try to catch here?
It took you time to think about that question, there is no right answer, your answer is as good as mine.
ART RELIEF -program
I did have a plan for ART RELIEF-program, who would have been a charity type program, for adult or child who has traumatic experiences in life, and in this program, they would have been able to paint a painting of their own, with the help of visual artist, who would do this tutoring for free. But I think, it is no use to start that kind of program here. It is really difficult to get support for this kind of programs here, and because material a good quality paintings are always expensive, there would be a need for economical support. But this kind of things here in Finland is not legally possible to organize ( because here in Finland it should be ART RELIEF ltd.). And this charity type of aspect is that thing, what we would need to adjust to Finland from USA, not that army type police-ideology.
